about

"Artifacts" is a piece of music built upon the many interactions of a complex web of active textures and moving melodies— all combining to form a sonic landscape in constant motion, while still engendering an overwhelming sense of timeless peace— like zooming out from the many broiling peaks and troughs of the ocean's surface until you feel the static stillness of the ageless depths beneath. Joining together lush strings and spare pianos with analog synths and other electronic wizardry a rich world of beautiful noise continually unfolds, sweeping the listener up and along its poignant path.

Artifacts is the first song off my new EP "Unconformities", written and recorded during the collective pause and reset of the pandemic, which also coincided with the birth of my first child. An unconformity refers to a mysteriously layer of missing rock in deep geologic time— sometimes as many as a billion years of sedimentary layers just inexplicably gone from the ancient record. I wrote this music to reflect the strangeness, sadness and unexpected beauty of those years that seemed to exist outside the normal flow of time. An unconformity within my own memory but one not without great meaning and importance.
